Figure It Out vs. Kent State
September 14, 2019 By Pablo EscobarnerIn the final opportunity for a tune up game, before conference play begins, comes a convenient foe. Folks, Kent State is a horrible football team. If Auburn can’t get things going in this one then it’s gonna be an unfortunate reality going forward the remainder of the season.
First things first. We need a damn consistent run game. I think I can speak on behalf of all Auburn fans who are not Division I scholarship athletes when I say that I’m sick and tired of watching our offensive lineman just simply exist. They aren’t getting a push. They aren’t opening many running lanes. Our RBs are getting hit at the line of scrimmage. They simply exist. Figure it out.
Fortunately, as I’ve already stated, Kent State sucks. Their defense gives up 6.1 yards per play, 30 points per game, 171 rush yards per game, 284 pass yards per game, and they’ve allowed their opponents to score 100% of the time they’ve entered the redzone. On offense, they allow a sack rate of 11.11% which is good for 98th in the country. They score 7 points per game (#111) and only averaging 200 total yards of offense per game (#117).
There is a legitimate chance that Auburn is able to shutout Kent State tonight. No matter the opponent, that’s always a nice thing to hang your hat on at the end of any game. This game won’t be close (hopefully). There are some significant areas for improvement that need work but none are more vital to Auburn’s season success than establishing an effective run game.
Prediction: Auburn 38 – Kent State 0
Auburn gets some semblance of a run game going against a far inferior opponent. Several guys need to get touches, particularly carries out of the backfield. If anything else, Nick Saban played at Kent State so beat the hell out of them for that reason alone. FIGURE IT OUT.
