Auburn Softball: Tigers to Begin Postseason Run in Tallahassee
May 14, 2018 By Taylor JonesAuburn Softball learned their postseason fate Sunday night. The Tigers will travel to Tallahassee, Florida to begin regional play on Friday at 11 A.M. against Kennesaw State. Jacksonville State and host Florida State are also competing in the regional
For the first time since the 2014 season, Auburn Softball will be on the road to open postseason play. The Tigers drew the #2 seed in the Tallahassee Regional, hosted by #6 overall seed Florida State. The Regional consists of tough teams, including Kennesaw State, a team that Auburn defeated 2-1 on April 4 at Jane B. Moore Field. Ohio Valley Conference champion and in-state foe Jacksonville State is also featured.
Although the Tigers dreamed of hosting a regional for the fourth consecutive season, Coach Mickey Dean is optimistic about the outcome and believes that his team still has something to prove.
“I think any time you have an opportunity to play in the postseason, that’s not a disappointment,” says Mickey Dean following the regional announcement. “It gives you an opportunity to play for a national championship, and I think that’s what it’s all about.”
Senior pitcher Kaylee Carlson believes that opening with Kennesaw State is an advantage to both teams.
“We just have to go out there and do what we know how to do,” Carlson said. “We’ve already played this team, so we know them. They know a little about us. So we just have to go out there, fix what we did wrong last time and do it better this time.”
Auburn will play Kennesaw State to open the tournament on Friday at 11 A.M at JoAnne Graf Stadium. The winner of the Tallahassee Regional will meet up with the winner of the Baton Rouge regional next weekend. Hosted by LSU, the Baton Rouge regional will also feature Houston, Fordham, and UL-Lafayette.
