Game Day Info: Auburn Baseball vs Florida, Game One
April 26, 2018 By Taylor JonesThe spotlight will be on the Auburn Tigers tonight, as they travel to Gainesville to begin a three-game series with the #1 Florida Gators
There are a few key headlines entering this series between Auburn and #1 Florida… including a dreamy pitching matchup, a winning streak, and an offensive explosion.
Auburn rides a six-game winning streak into Gainesville, outscoring opponents 70-19. Last weekend, Auburn outscored Alabama 44-10 en route to their first sweep over their rivals in Tuscaloosa since 1976. Many players have contributed to this streak, including freshman Steven Williams. Williams was named SEC Co-Freshman of the Week after going 6-for-10 at the plate in the series against Alabama, reaching base 12 times and picked up eight RBI. He followed that performance by going 4-for-4 with a long ball in Tuesday’s 7-2 win over Samford.
Williams and fellow freshman and roommate Edouard Julien are neck-and-neck when it comes to leading stat categories. Williams holds the lead in batting average (.331), Julien holds the advantage in home runs (9). Both are tied with the team lead in RBI, with 40 each. It has become a bit of a competition for both players, Williams mentioned during Tuesday night’s post-game press conference.
